[Max returns from doing quiet maintenance for the day, exhaling slowly as she makes her way toward her room. She's so damned tired it's ridiculous. She's hoping maybe she'll have better luck sleeping for a few hours while it's still daylight, so she's planning to at least attempt a nap.
She spots the handkerchief on her bed immediately, looking at it and then glancing over her shoulder, but she doesn't see anyone around. She moves to sit down on her bed, picking it up curiously, and unfolding it to see the pin inside. She blinks a couple of times, then slowly opens the note that's with it, reading it over. The first two words feel like a punch to the gut.
Bill's gone.
Bill had been the second person here who'd started out a stranger and quickly became a friend and she swallows heavily, biting down hard on her lip as she keeps reading. She finishes the note, not even realizing that a couple of tears have spilled down her cheeks. Her hand is shaking as she picks up the pin carefully and stares at it. One of her very first interactions with Bill had involved her asking about this very pin. She grips onto it tightly and carefully folds the note up, tucking it away in her pocket for now.
She needs to find Eddie and Richie, see if they're okay. But first she needs to pull herself together. Seeing her upset won't help them at all. She needs to be the strong one here, and she will be. She just needs a little bit of time first.]
