[She hadn't really given that piece of things much thought even though sure, she'd read that. It hadn't mentioned Hawkins, so it hadn't really clicked for her. And now the insinuation is -- no. He can't possibly be talking about her.
Why else would he have given her his number, though? It's not like he needs some random girl to help find his family.]
[She's speechless again. Dumbfounded, really. He's really saying that they're related? Her mind is racing, trying to fit the puzzle pieces together. Her mom is from Indiana. It's why they'd moved back here to begin with when they'd left California. But she's never known any of her mom's family. Just her dad's. Her mom didn't have any siblings, and her grandparents on that side had died when she was a kid.]
No no no, it's fine, she’s just going to kick my ass for looking like hell
Old douchebag classmate. We had a disagreement and it turned physical. I’m fine, I promise. Just trying to figure out who the hell carries glitter around to stick it into people’s cuts.
[She's not sure she would have if she hadn't already been on the verge of bombing English class, and her mom really doesn't need one more reason to drink.]
[Truth be told she's a little concerned that whatever she's shooting at won't drop at all. The monsters from the Upside Down aren't easy to stop. The demogorgans would be her best bet for success. The Mind Flayer? Nancy had fired a shotgun into the thing's face multiple times. Even El hadn't been able to stop it with her powers. She's going to have zero shot at taking down something like that.
She wonders if a gun would have stopped the Flayed. Maybe. Probably. But she's not entirely sure she'd be able to shoot someone with a human face, either. A human face like Billy. She struggles not to let her mind go back to that terrible moment, instead listening and nodding as he instructs her.
She wraps her hands around the gun the way he demonstrates, taking aim at the log with a little furrow between her brows. She hits it, but it's nowhere near where she aimed. She's going to need a lot of practice, apparently. A lot.]
( Honestly, the only thing he cares about is that she learned how to use the damn thing at all, hitting the log in the slightest is just a bonus. A gun's a threat, at the end of the day. If a man looks at her and knows she doesn't even know how to pull the trigger, it's not a threat anymore. And make no mistake, this level of firepower... this is a people-deterrent, not a monster-deterrent. He's still got a stockpile here for the latter, but if he can help it she'll never be within a hundred yards of that shit.
He waves her off absently. )
Nah, don't sweat it, you did fine. Didn't hit the dirt, so you're better than half the population, easy. Here, finish the clip and we'll call it. I'll come back around before I leave, give you a little more practice, how's that?
( If she wants. If she's interested. He figures she probably will be, if nothing else than because this trailer's a hollow tombstone of a home, empty and devoid of even the toxic life he saw the last time he was here.
He knows, because like recognizes like. Her mom doesn't even realize the mistake she's making by not being around. She's got no damn idea, and she won't until it's too late. )
[Well, true. She didn't hit the dirt. Better than half the population? She's not too sure about that but she'll do her best to take his word on it anyway. There aren't too many adults that she respects and actually looks up to, but Frank is on that very short list.
She exhales, nodding and focusing before firing off the rest of the rounds. She's not quick about it, careful to take aim and do her best to keep her arms steady the whole time. ]
Yeah. Practice is good.
[And to give herself some credit, she hadn't gotten good at skateboarding right away either. It took time and a lot of practice.]
I can do it. I just kinda -- need you to guide me a little? [As long as he can do that, she can get herself shifted into the wheelchair from the bed. She's been practicing since the arm casts came off.]
Yeah. Maybe.
[She's not sure that's going to be the case, but weirder things have certainly happened in Hawkins. By a lot.]
I'm -- really glad you guys are back. Not just because of all the crap happening. Just -- I missed you and El. [It's probably the most sentimental thing he's heard her say, but she'd gotten really close to death and it kind of changes your perspective on some things. Maybe she can be a little more soft with her friends. With the people who are still there.]

Nah, nothing exciting except the monster thing.
I might manage a passing grade in Spanish.
We'll see.
